Citizenship opens many opportunities for you and your family and allows you to vote, but it can feel like a daunting process if you don’t know what to expect. At our Oklahoma City immigration law firm, we are here to guide you through the process with confidence. Discover how to become a United States citizen today.
You may be eligible for citizenship if you are a permanent resident of the United States and have a “green card.” You must be 18 or older and have lived in the United States for five years or three years if you are married or are the parent of a United States citizen. You must also show that you have good character. Certain criminal charges, failure to pay child support or alimony, and other issues can affect your application.
If you meet the requirements for citizenship, you can file with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) using a Form-N400. It can take up to ten months for your application to be processed.
After your application is processed, you will have your fingerprints taken and schedule your citizenship test. This test includes questions about the country’s history, constitution, and more.
Once you pass your test, the only thing left to do is to be sworn in. After the ceremony, you will officially become the newest citizen of the United States of America!
